? about the "dummy lights"
? about the "dummy lights"
On my 86 SC I have the 3 dummy lights (not real gauges) One for temp, oil pressure, and alternator. I was wondering if all 3 are supposed to light up when the key is turned forward but the engine is not cranked. On mine the oil pressure light lights up bright, while the alternator light lights up but about half and bright and the temp gauge does not light up at all. I asked my dad and he said it was prb b/c the engine was cold not overheating. I never thought to pay attention to if they all came on on my friends 85. I just need to know so I'll know whether to tear into it to fix it if I need too. I don't wanna be overheating and my light not come on b/c it's burnt out. I'm not that stupid to not be able to tell if it is overheating but I don't wanna mess up my little engine.

I believe that only the oil, charge and check engine lights are supposed to come on just to let you know that they work.

The temp light may supposed to light up when you turn the key to "start". I know the temp gauge shoots all the way up when I turn my key to start. A simple test is also to ground the wire that goes to the temp sensor on the engine. When you ground it with the key in run the light should go on.
