4th gen interior stuff (retrofit)
4th gen interior stuff (retrofit)
Anyone have any info about the guy who retrofitted an entire 4th gen interior into his third gen TA? I already have the 4th gen seats and I'm getting ready to convert over to a 4th gen console. I'd like to ask him a few questions regarding a couple specifics and can't find a shred of evidence that he exists. There was a lot of talk about this a while back and lots of pictures were posted. PLEASE, if anyone knows anything ... post it here.
Thanks!

Whats up. All I would like to say is good luck. I was going to make the same swap with all the interior from a '97 Firehawk into my 1983 TA. Everyone said how much of a hard time it would be. I just gave up on it, because i couldnt get a hold of the same person you are talking about. I still want to do this swap really bad, but so many people talked me out of it. Can you do me a favor, and when you find out how to do this let me know. Just email me at jimbo1184@hotmail.com. Let me know if your swap is successful, and give me pointers on how to do it with my '83 TA. I can still buy the Firehawk dash, just that i dont know if it will work out in my TA, so just let me know so i can decide if i should still do it. THanks. GOOD LUCK!
I'm not going quite that extreme. ...yet ... I already have seats out of a 4th gen (direct swap as you probably know). My console shows the typical wear that all Firebird consoles do. Replacing the lower part and the 'glove box lid' will be very costly, and I still won't really like the console. I have found a good deal on a 94 Firehawk console which I am buying. FOr now, I'm just going to do the console. Still there will be obstacles. My stock shifter won't work. I don't know if I can use the stock 4th gen shifter or not. If not, I'm considering 'booting' an aftermarket auto shifter like a 6 speed would have been in the 4th gen. Hell, I could probably make it LOOK like a stick shift pretty easily with a 'universal' auto shifter. I really have only two concerns ... 1. placement of the power window switches (I already have the panel and wiring harness from a Camaro to put the power mirror switch on the door) and 2. parking brake. Need to make certain that the lever will actually work. I need to replace mine anyway, so I'm sure I can come up with something. Anyway ... seems a lot of work for a cupholder ....

The center console is a direct swap... kinda. I did it with a 96 TA Vert console w/ a 6 speed piece in it. That part doesn't fit my AT at all, so that didn't work. The E-brake should work out just fine... it just takes a lot of patience and maybe some cutting skills ...
