Windshield gap
Windshield gap
I have recently gotten a '91 formula and noticed that around the windshield corners on the top, there are large (1/4") gaps between the sheetmetal and the rubber weather stripping that goes aroudn the windshield. I was wondereing if that weather stripping can be replaced without taking the window out. And where to find the weather stripping. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It can be replaced, but the new weatherstripping is going to do pretty much the same thing.

I don't think that new weatherstripping will do that for a while, though. The front of that car might've always been in the sun. When I dropped my car off at the paint shop, Maaco told me $50 to replace the (damn I forget the name) windshield seal.. I told 'em to leave it alone. You can do it with the window out. The thing shoves into the gap.. it has grippers every few inches that look almost like a door panel clip's grippers do.

Chris, What happened is the windshield has been replaced before. Most if not all glass companies use a universal roll of weather strip. (sometimes called a reveal molding)It's not cut or relived at the corners so it usually shrinks in the corners. It can be replaced without taking out the glass but you should buy a GM piece. Any GM dealer can get one. Also, it will only fit 100% if the glass is taken out and placed back in. While the urethane is not set the windshield can be manipulated up to get a tight seal. Now that i think about it that may be what happened. The wind. was replaced and possibly slid down a bit before the urethane set. (not uncommon) Let a pro do it. A real pro. There seams to be alot of inexperience in the glass biz. If the the glass does come out make sure whoever uses two-part urethane. Remember inexperience leads to broken glass, scrached paint, cut headliners, gouged dash pads, and dents. Be careful. Good luck.
