In Dash trunk release.

I have an 86 Trans Am, I still have my now scrap 86 Firebird, the firebird has the in dash trunk release...the Trans Am doesnt...what would be involved in putting that in my T/A. Would I just un-plug the switch, plug it in the T/A and plug in a harness in the back or would I have to run new wires? Thanx,
Brian

86, You need to change the latch. The T/A needs the electric release at the hatch. Check to see if the T/A already has the harness in place. If it is just plug it in and possibly add a fuse in an empty hole at the block. You need change over your dash plate or get one that has the correct holes. If the harness is there, it a 30 min. job.

I'll open it up and check all this later today or tomarow....my T/A has the hole in the dash but it had the cover over it, like the option wasnt inclueded on it. I hope the harness is there cause I got quite used to this option on my firebird. Thanx for the help and War_Eagle I'll keep you updated.

You will need the switch for the dash . . .that will plug in. You will need a relay that goes on the passanger side just to the left of the computer . . .that will plug in. However, some cars didn't have the wire going all the way to the trunk. If yours does than you need to add the solenoid to the trunk pull down mechanism and also there is a little ground wire back there that you will need to add to ground the solenoid. It is just a single wire connection going to the solenoid.
