that light in the cargo area?
that light in the cargo area?
my 86 has a light and a switch beside it.the 92 rs im using for interior parts only has a light,no switch.Do i need the switch when I put the 92 plastic in?I dont even know what the switch is for.its a 3 position switch but only works if I turn it on ,not when the hatch or doors are open.is it broke anyway?thanks

I think where the difference lies is in the '86 not having a power pull-down hatch. I believe they came to be in '87. I have a '91, and the light is activated by the power hatch release switch. I don't know how easy it would be, but you may be able to convert yours over to use the power pull-down, I dunno...

From 90-92 the hatch light came on automatically. There must be a mercury switch of some type, but I haven't found it yet. Your 86 hatch light only comes on when you turn on that switch you are asking about. You have two choices: If you can trace back the wiring for the hatch light in the 92 and find the switch that turns it on automatically, then you can add it to your 86. Otherwise you will need to cut a hole in the 92 plastic and install the manual switch. I added the manual switch to my 90 just so I have the option of opening my trunk (convertible) and leaving the light turned off. Good luck, Lon.

my 86 had the power pull down. that switches function is to simply tell the light if it comes on automaticly with the hatch up or not. thats it

Thunderstick: I found the "mystery" switch. It is the same switch that causes the pull down to activate. Mystery solved, thanks.
