faulty guages
Sometimes the needle gets caught under the inner bezel. Try tapping on the gauge to free it. If not, take the outer and inner bezels and the clear plastic shield off, then turn on the car and see of the needle resets itself. If it does, bend it a little closer to the face to prevent it from happening again and put it back together.
If not, it's something else. Check the wires, the sender, and the cluster's printed circuit.
