Got my car out of storage last Friday. Sunday night I stripped the interior down. Monday night was spent slathering the interior with B-Quiet soundproofing. Tuesday night was getting the bugs out of the new leather power seats (6way power lumbar, from a 98 t/a). Wednesday night was wrestling with the carpet and reinstalling that gawdawful trim. Thursday night was more of the same. It's now 10:45 pm, I'm 98% done, and my hands are so sore I can barely type.

Can't wait to drive it. To bad it's snowing. AGAIN. AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH.

For installing carpet, just take out all seats, rear interior panels, door sills, kick panels, seat belt receptacles, and center console (incl. radio). Console is the hardest part, but no other part of the dash needs to be messed with.

 

Cool!! Let us know how the BQuiet works out, but I guess its snowing, that sucks. I am going to use BQuiet when I redo my interior.

I am going to answer all the questions here!

1. I just got a digital camera. I haven't yet loaded the software into my desktop computer (it won't go into this computer, it's a Windows NT setup). I hope to do that tonight, which means I should be able to get pix up by the middle of the week. Thanks for asking!

2. I bought the B-quiet insulation at www.b-quiet.com. I bought the special - 100ft2 for $100. It's the best deal. I used the entire roll on the interior, EXCLUDING the trunk area. I know that sound like a lot but it's amazing how fast you use it up. I used 3-4 layers in the most obvious locations. I didn't even have enough to do the door panels, but I did do the kick panels and rear 1/4 interior trim. I haven't driven it yet (see below) but already you can tell the vibrations are way down (ie. just by knocking on it). And it's much cheaper than dynamat.

3. You don't have to remove the lower dash at all, but you do have to remove the kick panels, sill panels, and rear 1/4 panels. Easy to get off, hard to reinstall. I still have a few screws to go. Those cost me some good knuckle scrapes.

4. Installing the carpet is just like deacon says. However I found the kick panels and rear 1/4 panels harder to reinstall than the console. I still have an electrical bug in the console, it keeps blowing fuses (I suspect the cigarette lighter) which I intend to address tonight. One piece of advice: when you finally get to install the carpet after removing everything and slathering with B-quiet, start from the middle and work outwards. In other words, get the console hole all lined up, then check by putting the console back on (no bolts yet). Then make sure it fits under the radio. Then start reinstalling the seat belts, etc. Work toward the back. You will always get carpet bunched up somewhere, and the best place for it is under the rear seats where you will never see it anywhere. And resist the temptation to cut the carpet (I got mine from www.1auto.com, it's an ACC pre-cut carpet)except as a last resort.

5. As for that snow...I am typing this from Sugarloaf/USA, up in Maine's western mountains. The snowstorm that ended Friday left 34" of snow at the base. Unbelievable. Fortunately at the coast where I live there's only about 3' left in my front yard. It's melting today, I hope....

Yep, it was the cigarette lighter. I got the ground and power backwards. D-oh! Everything works now.
