Anybody change interior plastic color?

I've been kicking around the idea of using the vinyl paint stuff to repaint all my interior moulding in black, from it's factory gray. Has anybody done this, and if so, how did it look? Any other words of though would be appreciated. Thanx

I am doing the same thing. I am testing it first though. I pulled out a piece and will prime one half then paint it, paint the other half and see how it looks. Which ever looks better I am doing.

I went to the J/Y and found a grey interior and gutted it. I paid $50 including carpet for eveything. You might wanna check out the J/y's first. I have used that vinyl stuff on a civic, and from that experience, i'll never let it touch my camaro. (it chips and peels VERY easily). I've heard of die kits you can use that might work a bit better though....
hope this helps...

I helped my friend do this with his rustang. He wanted to customize his interior by making it black and red. We first lightly sanded each plastic piece. Then we used a spray primer. After letting that dry we sprayed the pieces red. I think it looks great. It may sound a little *****, but trust me it isnt. It actually matches his black and red seats. They havent chipped yet, and he has had them painted for 7 months. The only place they scratched was around where he needed to use a screwdriver and slipped. One thing to look out for is that the pieces are all plastice. The pieces that are a rubbery plastic will not work. We made sure by painting the back of the piece first. If I were you, I would go to a junk yard and just buy a small part and test it out. Also, use a clear gloss coat finish, it made the paint stand out. Good luck, and post pics. I took the hard way out and just bought black plastic interior pieces from a '91 to replace my gray ones, but some of my old ones were cracked.

I'm doing this to mine right now. I have a black interior, but I like how the duplicolor high gloss black looks so I'm covering it, it seems to hold up well, but you have to clean the parts real well with a clean scotch-brite pad and dish soap to get rid of the grease, and be careful when handling it too. they make an adhesion promoter for this too. I'm planning on pulling the parts I've already done out and clearcoating them to help keep the paint from chipping and peeling. I'm gonna try it on one piece to make sure it keeps the sheen I'm lookin for.

I changed my interior from grey to black. So far I have Black/Charcoal 4th gen cloth seats, graphite carpet, and all black interior plastic (except door handles and panels). It looks nice, but since the plastic pieces came out of a 91Z, they have the same scratches as my old one did. I am thiking about going all out and getting them covered in black leather, to match my 4th gen leather seats I'll have one day, along with my black leather 4th gen TA doorpanels, and black 4th gen TA dash... one day I'll get around to doing that!

Yeah, as long as you get the pieces spotlessly clean and use the adhesion promoter you'll be ok. I did this a year ago when I changed to grey, and didn't think to use the adhesion promoter stuff, what a mess I had after about 3 mos in the FL heat. Took off the T's and all these strangely-shaped chunks of grey paint started flying out of the car.
