prepping for new paint, what do I need to do?
K. I have a 85 Sport Coupe Camaro, I'm having it painted silver (it's a dark charcoal now). I know they are going to do a sealer/paint/clearcoat over my old paint. The body is perfectly straight, no dents, no rust. What should I use to scuff uf the old paint? Should I use a DA or would 3M scuff pads work? What grit should I use? Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks
Dave

Pick up a copy of David Jacob's How to Paint Your Car at your local bookstore. There is alot of good information in it.

200 grit is a bit agressive if you're just planning to seal over the old paint & go from there.
Since the body is in good shape, wet sand your car down with some 400 grit,,, the body shop will have a smooth base for them to paint on.
