Door protectors around keyholes!!!

I just picked my 1LE finally. The damn previous owner put those adhesive square keyhole protectors on. Is it save to use a heat gun, like the ones used for hobby airplanes to remove it? I don't want to pull it off cold and see a patch of paint come off with it.?? What's the safest way to remove any residual adhesive left behind? What's the best advise?

make sure your enviroment is warm, heat it up nice; not extremely hot(don't want to melt) and remove slowly.....this "should" work there isn't too much you can do. good luck
hope he marked the price down on the car because of those....jk!

There's a trick you could try, usually used for removing emblems like "FIREBIRD" and "Camaro" and etc...

Buy a roll of fishing line from a sports store. Cut a length of line about, oh, I dunno, 2 feet long? Put on some gloves. Heat the sucker up with a heat gun to make the adhesive gooey. Now, with your gloves on, grab a hold of each end of the fishing line, and pull your hands apart. Bring the fishing line so it touches the surface of the car, right at the edge of the "keyhole protector".

While keeping the fishing line tight against the body of the car, work the line up & down like a saw to dig between the keyhole protector and the car body. This will slice the adhesive in half, and get the keyhole protector off of there.

Then, just use an adhesive remover or a paint prep type of solvent to get rid of the adhesive. Have fun!
