A/C--vent air jumping

At slower speeds the dash vents shoot air from the dash outlets as it should; however, at higher speeds the air fluctuates between defrost and dash vents. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a vacuum leak on the back of the defrost/vent/heater/etc. switch to me. When you take the front of the console apart and look on the back of that switch, you see a rotary type assembly with a bunch of tubes plugged onto it. I think they are all molded into one connector, which is held on the back of the switch with some press on type washers. Sometimes mine leaks vacuum there and causes all of the settings to let air come out of only the defroster vents. I guess that is the default setting, and all of the other settings use vacuum to overcome a spring on a door or something to direct air to where it is supposed to go. I'd suggest taking a look at that connector, seeing if you can make it seal up a little better, and see if that helps the problem. Even if it works for just a little while, you might could at least isolate that as your problem. Of course, it could be something totally different, but that is my guess.

Good luck,
Mike

I think you're right, buy a new vacum switch.
