HATCH STILL WON'T CLOSE

91GTA, hatch opened, but Now the motor will not engage for the Final pull down. Have read the other posts here on this common problem. All fuses and wires are good. Duffster, read your post on checking a lever position?. Pulled the cover and looked for this?, can you send a picture? Hoping it is not the motor$$, I pushed a screwdriver into the area where the latch bar connects(only causes the light to go out, does not engage the motor. Car runs great, but now leaks if it rains. Need help. This is a great site for 3rd Gens!! Appreciate any help. , Or does anyone know a good repair guy in the Tampa/Orlando area?, if all else fails?? Thanks. ...Bulldog

It sounds as if the gear has stripped. Remove the plastic cover and wiring. Remove the 3 bolts holding it to the body. Then repair it according to the tech article I have attached. The plastic gear is p/n 20160587 available at the dealer. Good luck, Lon.
