Upper door hinge issues

First post, lurked here for a bit. I picked up a 92 Camaro a few months ago that I fell in love with and decided save from the junkyard. Im going through it peice by peice hoping to do a full restore. From time to time google fails me and reading these threads has saved me some money and time for damn sure.

I am really having a rough time finding the replacement for a drivers side upper door hinge. I took a look at the pin in the bottom hinge and concluded that my sagging was not due to the bottom being faulty. The top needs to be replaced. Has anyone recently replaced one and remember where they obtained said part? Links or a part number to google would be awesome. Knowing my luck it will be welded on or crap and i'll be stuck trying to snag a new door.

bolded for straight to the point people.

Search for Dorman HELP! brand part number 38401. I have a set I need to swap in. Please post back how it goes for you, I have done hinge pins and bushings before but these look intimidating.

Re: Upper door hinge issues

Search upper hinge pins and you will get an answer.also check out TDS website.
The hinge itself is welded to the door, if the hinge itself is toast, it's usually easier to get a new door. The upper hinge pins can be ground out and replaced, tough job with the door in place, easy with it removed.

That was what I was hoping I needed to do. It looks fairly straight forward. What i'm going to have to do is take the door off, grind out the faulty piece and go from there. I have a bit of metal working experience so it will either go really well or ill break it and have to get a new door or re weld a new bracket.

Re: Upper door hinge issues

If you take the door off its all pretty easy. Getting it lined up again can be a little tougher, just make sure you have a good support or help to put it back on.
The lower hinge bots from the inside so you will want to pull the kick panel.

Re: Upper door hinge issues

Its not that difficult with the door on. I used a cherry picker to hold the door in place. Took me about 2 hours per side to accomplish.

If you buy the deluxe kit from Lon at Top Down Solutions, it comes with some step by step directions.

Spend the money and get the spring tool. Don't skimp out on this indispensable tool. You will be sorry if you do.

I tried to save money and not get it. I was able to get the spring out with a short crow bar. No chance in hell of getting that thing back in without it. Ended up forking over the money and had the springs back in place in less time than it took to open the package. I also recommend this:

It makes getting the lower bushings out a lot easier.
