Problems with New Car

ok, I have some peoblems with a new IROC I bought.

1) The MAP light
The part that the light bulb plugs into is inside the overhead console. How do you take off the overhead console on T-Top cars

2) The Cigarette Lighter
WHY does GM make the wires so short so that I can't hook it up with out having to remove the dash?

3) Battery in Defront Vent
Some moron must have put a battery on the dash and it rolled into the defrost vents. Is there anyway to retreave. How do you remove the dash on these cars?

Thanks
Tom

1) well the cosole you pull the white cover and there are two screws, undo these then slide the console back towards the rear, and it should come right down.then just pull the bulbs out i guess.
2) yeah GM is dumb. i cant install mine back in my S10 for the same reason! pisses me off
3)ok go to autozone, and buy a little tool with the prongs that open on the end when you push the button in, or just buy a magnetic retreiver! and search far and wide..
and the dash comes off with the 4 screws in the defrost vents, and the 6-8 10mm bolts underneath the dash! easy to take out!
and there ya go. you might even see the battery and get it with your hand.
oh and jack the front of the car up so the battery falls to the end of the vent so you will be able to see it!!

are you serious it just slides back... I will go try it now..
I never thought of the grabber thing, i think my father has one.
I was thinking about just making the wires longer my self or relocating the Lighter to the Center Console, I don't smoke so I only use it as a power source.

Thanks for the info.
Tom

Ok, the console slides foward but it worked, I was able to retreve the light bulb socket with a coat hanger, it no only was above the console but in the T-Bar. I was afraid that It it travel some more across the top of the windsheild but it did not. I will get on the Batt. thing tomarrow.
