need lots of help with paint, do i leave cowl hood black or prime it?

that is the question. first we sanded the hood and primed it and painted it red to match my car but the paint was off so i am now just going to get the whole car painted and i dont know wheter to just strip the hood to black or just prime the whole car before i get it painted? BTW, i went to maaco and they told me 286.00 for the 400.00(originally) paint job and an integrated clear coat. he also told me that primer and sanding wasnt necessary. should i let it go and let him paint it or should i sand and prime? BTW i am going from red to black?

Do the prep work yourself!!! u will save alot of money!!! aleast sand the car before u go to get it painted the new paint will hold better!! Sand good in all the grooves like the edge of the hood and hatch and areas like that or the paint well start to chip there (because macco well sand your car quick before they paint it but only the surface)!! I once went the cheap way and got a car painted a macco it held up ok but i would recomoned spending more and get a good paint job!!! Again do all the body and prep work yourself its easy and will save u alot of cash$$$
