what does it take....
to put the electric hatch pull down in a car that didn't come with it originally? i had it in my 86 SC, and i want it in my 82 SC.

Transmission: SMOOOOOOTH T-56/Auto. . .
Axle/Gears: 3.42 and 2.73
well...you would need to get the bracket
from one, or manufacture your own and weld it into place under the rear interior panel.
you would need to get another rear interior panel to cover it with.
A switch for it would be nice and since you need a switch, wiring also.
For all of this to work, a rear hatch motor pulldown assembly
is a requirement also.

Why would you want to put the pull down hatch in a car that doesn't have one. Why they ever put those in the cars to start with is beyond me. They have no purpose at all. Is it really that hard to close your hatch?
The only reason I could guess is apparently so that you don't slam the hatch to close it, but I don't completely understand that reasoning, I'm always careful if i need to put anything in my back area because of my motor. I have a friend who's dad put too much in his sisters car before he closed teh glass and it completely exploded the back window. So much for protectign the glass huh?
I heard it closes the glass slowly so that if you slam it really fast, and your car is completely sealed, you don't shatter the glass or put high pressure on the t-tops or other glass in the car.
I'm not sure if this is true, again this is just what I heard, but my friend closes the hatch in his 240sx with all his windows closed, you can see the sun roof push up.

I know a guy who had the hatch pull down on his finger. He was stuck for almost half an hour until his brother came and helped him. He almost lost his finger because of it.

I just think that its a really neat little feature on our cars! Its just cool!
By the way, I did get my cell phone caught in there one time... it sucks becuase I dang near broke my key trying to open the lock.... O well! I like it.

I found the pull down keeps the hatch from rattling if you have sub-woofers in the trunk. it also makes a tight seal even if the weather stripping is old.
