Shifter ****....not OD compatible?

ok...i guess this goes here in this forum. Since i have worn a hole right through the leather on my automatic shift **** to the plastic underneath, because i like to keep my hand there for radio controls and such, and its geting progressively worse, i went to pep boys and stumbled upon those carbon-fiber automatic shift ***** for like 35 bucks. I was thinking about it, but then i saw a sticker on it that said "not for use on cars with OD gear" and i have overdrive. Ok, so i cant use it...this may be a dumb question, but what makes it unable to work on a car with OD?

Not sure if I am right but here goes nothing. When I changed my consule, I took off the shifter **** and saw a piece of plastic that had little ***** on it. I am sure their were 7 ***** on it (for the 7 tranny positions). It maybe that the shifter **** can only handle six because of it size. Just a though.

Maybe it's referring to the cars with the OD switch on the shifter **** (like Nissans).

John...the overdrive the **** you are looking to purchase refers to the cars with a switch in it...like the Nissans JZA mentioned..
our cars have the auto-unlock button at the top...if you can find a way of shifting without needing that button, you'll be fine.
As for the 7 ***** on the little white plastic rod inside our shifters...that is for structural support, so the plastic doesn't bend, but nice guess Pookey.

Thanks everyone. That carbon-fiber replacement looks ok i guess, but i just was curious. I dont think i will be getting it. My friend who has a (gag)mudstaing has OD in his car and bought that same shifter...he said it worked fine. Go figure.
