couple quick question for ya...

I was jsut wondering how hard it would be to put a rear hatch from an 87 on a 86 camaro? Is it a direct fit?

And I heard that you could only get t-tops with the 305 or smaller engine. You couldn't get t-tops with a 350? If it is true, then does the same apply to pontiacs?

That rear hatch should be a direct fit like you thought.
I have absolutely no idea about the t-top thing though. Sorry.

I HAVE A 86 WITH A 305 AND GLASS T TOPS. I HAVE SEEN 86 Z28'S WITH T TOPS AND I GOTTA BELIEVE THOSE HAD THE 5.7 LITRE ENGINES. GO TO THE HISTORY BOARD, THOSE GUYS WILL KNOW FOR SURE.

Almost 100% sure the 350/Tops combo is possible. I think there's one rare exception w/ 91-92 Irocs or SOMETHING like that, where the last two years they didn't combine the two.

2 problems, no 5.7 in 86 (they only made like 50 and were all test vehicles for the reintroduction of the 350 in 87 (20th anniversary) 2, no irocs were made in 91-92, but hey that's a technicality
anyway, there was a post about this earlier and the consencus was that the 350/t-top combo was available on 'birds but not 'maros. Why? ya got me! sounds like the best idea to me, why would you want a top of the line car without the sport options. makes no sense, but do what they said and check the history board, there are plenty of experts there.

thanks everybody, now i can get rid of that darn third brake light. i wonder if the t-tops and 350's were because the car wasn't as strucutally sound as the solid top? It might have something to do with the handeling with the extra power from the 350?

i thought that the combo was available, just not on a 91 or 92 z. I know I have seen some 350 cars with t-tops. IRocs mainly.

To answer all the questions..

1. There are 350's with Ttops from 87 to 89. 90 to 92, no 350/TTop combo except for Pontiac.

2. No IROC in 91-92, as was already mentioned. Top end was the return of the Z28.

3. The hatch is a direct swap. I have heard about legal issues when it comes to selling a car that by law was mandated to have a 3rd brake light and was modified to not include it. I'm not saying that you will have a problem, but it CAN happen. By law, all 1986 and newer cars are federally mandated to produce a 3rd light and it could be construed as a felony by removing it. I did it to an 88 and was warned at the time. I'm just passing on the warning.
