Bodyconversion from 1991 to 1982-84

Hi Everybody,

I want to change the complete body of my 1991 Firebird 3,1Liter, Hardtop

Into this:

Without the hood and the Sidepipes

Now my question: Wich Parts does I need and from where?
Can I use 91 front and rear impact bar? Ans 91 Front Fender?

Does anybody do it before?

hmmm.. if your 91 does not have ground effects you need front and rear bumpers and honeycomb, headlight surround and marker lights. fenders will work. If your 91 has gfx, you have alot of holes to fill if you take them off

Hi,

the fenders are for GFX but I only have GFX at the door and at the rear, rest is lost.
Fix the holes isn't a problem, little peace of metal and it looks like new after new painting.

Another stupid question: Isn't possible to cut the honeycomb or installing new Front bumper without honeycomb? (YES I know in case of a crash I wish the honeycomb back) but also, possible?

Steve is almost correct...

The entire headlight assemblies, not just the trim pieces, need to be swapped with the earlier ones (be best to get 85-90 pieces). For one, the trim pieces on the earlier pop-ups won't bolt to the late headlight doors, and for 2, the headlights you currently have are 4x6 headlights. The others are bigger, and won't look right in the larger surrounds (like putting a Camaro headlight on a pickup truck from the same year). You do need the markers for the front bumper (by the headlights).

Rear bumper honeycomb is a non-issue.

Make sure all of the brackets for the early bumpers are intact. The GFX ones would need to have the lower part cut off (corner brackets between covers, fenders, and quarters), and the bracket that bolts to the nose plate (at the top front of the front cover) is different and won't interchange.

And you also need the front corner air dam pieces... The 82-90 pieces are longer than the 91-92 ones. Your existing center will bolt to them as well as the lower ones.

Thanks for the help! Great Forum i Miss in Germany.

The Lower airdam i'll take from the 91 model and Cut it a lil bit. It needs to be working Not good looking also most times you dont see it anyway.

Another question: what would you say where to buy? Hawks? Classic industries?

Just to add to this, the headlight trim on '82-'84 birds are shaped slightly different than on the '85-'90 birds. The lower outside corners (in the closed position) are more squared on the '82-'84s to match the bumper. I found that out this year when I tried to put an early one on my GTA.

It's not the lower air dam you need to worry about, it's the 2 upper ones on each side between the fenders and the bumper cover, P/Ns 10118488 and 10118489 (IIRC, unless the early cars used different air deflectors). You may be able to get away with the center piece alone, but I wouldn't risk it.

Hawks or Thirdgen Ranch would be your best bet... For some reason, Classic has been trimming down their 3rd gen parts inventory (almost like we're the generation everyone wants to forget), and people have reported issues with their OER stuff anyways.
