Installing Ground Effects?!
Installing Ground Effects?!
I just bought a set of 88 Iroc ground effects that I want to put on my 85 Sport Coupe. I have the front and rear bumper covers on. I need the rear quarters, side, and door ground effects put on now. I have to drill holes to do this and was wondering if anyone has done this before and how i would measure everything? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I did it to my Camaro going on 12 years ago now.
For the rear quarters I carefully measured where the studs would go and marked the spot on some masking tape on the quarter, then drilled. It might have been better to put the studs through a piece of cardboard and make a template, but mine came out perfect anyway.
For my doors I used TransAm gfx, and I'm not sure they are mounted quite the same as the Camaro ones. I riveted the bracket in place on the rocker, and used the same method as on the quarters for the door piece and for the rocker piece where it mounts to the fender and rear quarter. My main suggestion is to just be careful and measure and remeasure to be sure you get the holes in the right spot.
After I finished drilling the holes, I treated the bare metal to a little POR-15 to keep rust from developing there, and used clay type caulking around the studs to prevent water leakage into the body. Hope this helps you a little.

Re: Installing Ground Effects?!
Im curious how this went for you. I am wanting to do the same thing. The only piece I am missing is the steel bracket that goes on the lower rocker that you bolt the side skirts to. Then start mapping out all the holes.
