Does anybody know of any company that reproduces the stock steal hood for a 84 Z28?? Classic Industries, or Hawks does not. I'm looking for a hood with louvers in the middle, 84 and 85 are different. Thanks in advance.

Re: Need to find a hood 84 Z28!!!
A stock 82-84 Z hood has NO louvers.
Just the small black plastic plates at the rear of the hood insets contour.
The center of the inset has a black decal. Later years had the louvers.

Classic has the repop 82-84 hood $239 and 85-92 repop $199

You are right, the appearance is there for looks only. The actual use of louvers were closed off, because of inclosed air intake for more of a economic use of engines. Thanks I have called Classic Industries and they no longer have these hoods in stock, I'm looking at the catalog that has the same part numbers you gave me.

Gentlemen,

Originally, there were several versions of these hoods. Due to an issue with water seeping into the intakes and causing hydrolock, the original GM functional Crossfire (plastic) hoods 14047995 were recalled by GM and replaced with a non-functional (plastic) hood 14047994.

Later, there became a problem with the non-functional (plastic) hood where the top of the panel separated from the bottom of the panel, so GM recalled those hoods as well and replaced them with a steel hood 14609174.

The steel hood 14069174 superseded to 10107855 in July of 1990 and became discontinued by GM in 2002.

We have offered a reproduction hood for quite some time. However, in recent years, the reproduction steel hood 1668007 has become no longer available due to the tooling becoming damaged. We contacted the manufacturer who informed us that due to low sales volume and high tooling costs, they have decided not to retool.

Because no steel reproduction is available, we have decided to reproduce the original (plastic) non-functional hood 14047994 and offer them in fiberglass. We are in the final stages of tooling and although we do not currently have an eta, we believe we will have a fiberglass "Made in USA" reproduction available soon.

We hope this provide some clarification for those of you who are in need of a hood for your 82-84 Z28.

Thanks,

Classic Industries
