tail light center piece

beside cosmetic differences will a '89 formula center piece fit on a GTA?

Yes it will. I currently have the center piece from an '88 GTA on my '83 TA. I have converted to the grid style lights. Before that, I had the center piece with the bird emblem and the PONTIAC below the key hole. As of now, my center piece is just that 3-D red bird. Any center piece will work.
