Fiberglass Flat Hood?
Good morning all.
I'm looking to replace the steel hood on my RS. I contacted VFN, but all they have is the Z 28 style hood. Does anyone know if someone makes a "standard", flat, fiberglass hood?
Thanks!

Re: Fiberglass Flat Hood?
I really don't want to do a lift-off. I've considered taking a Z style hood and cutting out the depressions, then re-glassing them in to make them level. But, that's a lot of work to do to a "new" part.
Would it be completely impossible to create a bracket so that the lift-off hood could be mounted to the OE hinges? I suppose I'd have to figure something out with the latch as well. I only ask because, to be honest, I've never really at the underside of a lift-off. I've seen plenty of OE style glass replacement hoods though.
It's surprising that nobody has a flat hood. There really wouldn't be much difference in the molds. The structural mold for the underside of the hood would remain the same.
I was considering the smallest cowl hood at, what, 2 inches? But, I think that would kill the stock-ish appearance and sleeper effect.
Meh, I'll just keep my eyes peeled for a flat glass hood, or a cheap enough hood that I don't feel bad about butchering it.

the 2 inch cowl hood you dont really notice if you go on harwoods website you can see the bottom side if the regulare lift off hood its basicly just the skin of the hood with small frame to keep it from warping

Re: Fiberglass Flat Hood?
I was just on Harwood's site. I see that they offer the "ext." (I assume they mean skin) of the flat hood (P/N: 12091). So, since they have the molds for both parts, I sent an e-mail to see if they might make a flat, bolt-on hood.
I'll post up their response.
Thanks!
EDIT: I see "ext." means extended. But, they still have the plain stock hood mold. So, hopefully they'll set me straight on that, and respond.

Re: Fiberglass Flat Hood?
Well, Harwood pretty much blew me off. I guess I shouldn't be surprised about that.
However, I found these guys:
Unlimited Products
http://www.up22.com/camaro82.htm
Why does that name sound familiar? Are they big players in glass parts? Seems like I've heard that name before...
Anyway, $375 for a stock mounting, flat hood. I did just call to confirm that it is not the Z-28 style. Weight is 36 pounds. What's the OE hood, 75 pounds?
I'm guessing another c-note for shipping, and we're still under $500. Looks like they do a few other parts and pieces. Now they've got me considering fiberglass doors...
Thought I should pass this on.
