Converting manual to power windows
Converting manual to power windows
I really want to put power windows into my camaro. I have everything from a camaro with power windows (guides, motor, etc.), but putting all of that stuff in my doors looks like it will be a real pain. Is there any way I could just mount the motors on to my existing manual windows?

I NEED THE SAME INFO. THERE IS THIS ALARM SHOP THAT CONVERTS MANUAL TO POWER FOR $40.00 EACH DOOR. SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE, HUH? THAT'S WHY I HAVE NOT DONE IT. WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS OF THIS?

I have done this converson.
I suggest that you work with the interior stuff frist (i.e. the switches and the wiring harness) get all that stuff in your car. Then take the door inner pannels off. this part your going to need a second pair of hands- have some one hold the glass up and remove the track and the old crank arms. No, the moters can't just be mounted on the existing cranks. then insert the power assem. in to the door, I think that there was only one opening that it would fit through. insert the rollers in to the track on the glass and reinstall the guide track. then have the helper move the glass up and down until the rivet holes line up. (the rivet holes are already drilled in the door)
then I got a pair of the door side pockets to cover the hole where the cranks went through. they covered them nicely. study you donner car to see how it looks all done.
If you want to see the interior of my car go to http://www.geocities.com/birdofprey83/
Hope this helps and if you get stuck email me. (button on the top of this post

Not to sure how much it costs to convert but I am getting a used door with power windows/locks (to replace existing crappy sagging door) for $160.00 bucks installed. I think thats a pretty fair deal me.

If they only want $40 a door go for it. If the place does good work. Ask around. Really all they have to do is replace the maunal window gears and add some wires and swiches. I'm not sure on the cost of the motors but I'm sure there like at least $30 a pop. It's not too hard to do it yourself but if you can get it done real good and real cheap like you said I'd pay for it and I don't even like taking my car to someone else for an oil change!
