Here's the plan...take a thirdgen rotor (preferably a couple shot 1LE rotors due to bearing size), and cut the friction surface off, leaving just the hub. then place the 4thgen rotor over this 'adapter'. The 4thgen rotors are composite, they aren't hubbed with bearings like a 3rdgen, the rotor contains no bearings whatsoever. Anyway, do this, the caliper should be able to mount somehow to the factory spindle. Worst case scenario...modify the spindle. Still, if it works, that'll kick a$$!
Trust me, if it works, I wont be quiet about it. Also, if it works, I'll include pics.

Anybody know anything else about this topic? I've heard something about having to trim the back of the dash abit and having to change the heater box to 4thgen style for the dash to fit over it properly. I hope this helps, looks like the swap for me is a go.
Anybody finds a dash that came out of an LS1 car that has front brakes still on it, let me know ASAP!

There is also a guy who did the swap in Houston. He owns a body shop. He took to wrecked thirdgen camaros and made one car. Then he decided to make it a T-top, then into a convertable. He also has a 4th gen dash and monte carlo seats and headlights. It was in a Super Chevy article. I put it in my photo album, so I will try to post it. It's pretty bad @ss , check it out.
For all of those Houston people interested, the shop is "Lane's Hi-Tech Collision Repair"

OK, so it doesn't look like it is gonna show up. If somebody else wants to try to post it, then go for it. It is in the first link, then under the "Da Car" album. You can actually read the full article there if you want to.

Instead of swapping a 4th gen dash in, maybe it would be easier for you to fabricate a custome dash out of aluminum?
I'm not shure how you'd put vinyl on it...

OK guys, I looked alittle into it...it appears as if the heater box is completely different, so you'd need a heater box from a 4thgen to run the dash. Unless you don't mind not using the glovebox. As far a gages go, they all seem pretty straightforward, I'm looking at a schematic from a 1999 Z28. Looks like most of the cluster install will be cut and splice, The warning lights look as if they'll be easy to work, too, although some are run from solid state devices, I'll look into it more. I'm not sure on the A/C control head, I'll look into that. I'll keep you posted in the install, unless I'm missing something, looks as if the cluster will not require a control module to run. As far as my ABS swap goes, I have the 4thgen front discs installed on my car. They look good, but I will not say anything more until I get the motor back in to test them. The ABS system looks as if the only references it needs from another module are for speed sensors. This is not shown on my schematic, however, so a 'stand-alone' ABS 4thgen disc brake install may be active in the near future. Total cost-$450. I'll keep you posted, I haven't started installing ABS components...yet. As far as the airbags, they will not be usable unless a VCM is present, meaning a BCM must be present to comunicate, meaning it needs to connect to the engine harness, which are two completely different systems. Don't think that will be possible running TPI, unless someone swaps over to an LT1 or LS1. Traction control is also not possible unless a VCM and BCM and PCM are present, since signals from both rear wheel speed sensors(not just one like on non-traction control ABS systems)are required, in addition to torque signals and engine speed signals from the PCM, which cannot be delivered from a TPI computer. I hope I didn't confuse anybody, look for an ABS 4thgen disc conversion soon. I hope this works...any suggestions are great!

its a cool idea and all......
but maybe just let the topic die until more than one person has done it.
Personally I think its more fabricating than the average guy can handle, Since only one guy has done it maybe I'm right?????

Details, we want details!
Specifically:
What was used to mount the new dash to the old mounting points? Were custom brackets required? If so, do you have pictures of them? Was any cutting required when mounting the doorpanels?
Thats exactly what I want to do, a black TA dash/doorpanels/seats in my 92 RS. One of these days....

well i took pics, but i nerver really doucumented step by step, reason why was by no means im i a professional at this type of stuff, so what i do might look good in my opion might not in someone elses, this truely isnt a 100% swap , becuase im not using heat, the door buttons on new doors are just there, and guages will be something new or old ones, basically what you see is just cosmectics, to do a real 100% swawp is alot of time, and probally more knowledge then i have especially with wireing , so dont be fooled in thinking this is easy when i really coudnt tell you if it is or isnt
the dash was pretty much a direct fit, due to taking out old heater box and a metal tap on drivers side under dash had to be bent down, and a few holes drilled to secure the new dash to old holes and new ones in firewall, the door panels were more work then the dash i think, they do need to be trimmed, and new holes drilled, i didnt choose to use new door handles so i cut my exsting ones ,the other door panel i got problems with it, had to trim alot and am still working on due to it hitting the rollcage i put in, due to me not getting it exactly perfect cleance on both sides, keep in mind i had no help just me and its kinda hard welding a rollcage in a car with a stupid stick welder by yourself lol, anyhow i since have dyed everything black, due to not being able to match up the greys , i have just a few more things left to do, and waiting for my 383 from the shop to finish the interior, ive been without my car for 6 months and havent had it to the track this year yet so im kinda icthing on getting it going then finishing up the inside later, keep in mind the only reason i tried this swap was becuase i got the parts cheap from a guy who owns a junkyard and had a wrecked firehawk he was parting out with, this car is orginally a 89 formula 350 , when all is said and done it will have parts from a 84 camaro 86 camaro z28, 87 trans am, 95 firehawk(#300 and some its on www.firehawk.org the guy that owns that site got the slp build sheet for it ,86 fiero, i stil got alot of work to do, but as i said these are my opions and this car is not perfect but its different , so in short if you cant stand to be without your car for more then a few months dont do this swap , if you can then just jump right in , and have fun hehe, well like i said hopefully i will have more pics posted later on

You said the dash was almost a direct fit? Was there any steering column interference? Are you using the stock one along with the stock multi-switch (wipers, directionals, cruise control). About how many new holes needed to be drilled, and can you tell us approximately where they were? Also, can you take a few more pics, specifically, closeups of both sides where the dash meets up with the kickpanels. Thanks, it looks great!
