Is OK to shim drivers seat to make it sit higher?

I have a '89 Formula with the stock seats. They are scooped out way too low and with the hood bulge, I have a hard time seeing out of it because I am only 5'6" tall.

Is it ok to use large diameter washers or blocks to make to seat sit higher? I don't want to have the seats rip out if there is an accident.

I would rather do this than install the GTA power seats because of wiring issues and weight.

Sure its alright. Just make sure they're torqued down to spec and there's still thred sticking out of the bolt after you do so. If you're scared of them coming out, just some locktite stuff you can get from you local auto store.

Make sure you use the pressure treated wood though.

How much height are you trying to get? With the bolts torqued down, there's very little thread showing on the shaft, so there really isn't a lot of room for an increase in height. 1/4" at the most. Any more than that may require the installation of longer shafts or an adapter that lifts the seat above them completely.

If the bolts are too short make sure you replace them with grade 8 or better. You don't want the seat coming out in an accident.
