Older car care...
I've found that a car with a rotten body is way worse than a car with mechanical problems. No matter how hard you try to stay ahead of the rust it always comes back to haunt you. Fixing rust is a never ending (and expensive) fight that is never won.

Yeah you gotta keep on the rust all the time if you want to hang on to the car because once it gets started it does keep coming back big time. The metal changes and the only way to fix it is to cut out the bad bits and weld new stuff in. Not cheap.
Oil spray every year has kept my 83TA just about rust free and what rust there is doesn't take much to fix.
That Candian Tyre asphalt stuff works well too. You just keep spraying it everywhere under the car - even in the summer.
If my car ever catches fire it's gonna go up real good with all the tar & oil & crap that's on it.
