Chop top my Camaro.... ?Can I?

Can I chop my camaro top by about 3 inches? Think it would work? I talked to a local glass dealer about getting a redone hatch and windshield. Good est of about 800 bucks. And I can torch the rest myself. I think this would make it look cooler specially when I lower the car some more.

In this image I photoshoped the top down by bout 4 inches. If you can even tell....

The rear hatch glass will present the problem. The windshield and side windows are a lot easier. Any custom Rod shop should be able to handle them. But the hatch would scare me. It would be a lot easier to do a convertible. But a reworked top presents the challenge. Good luck, Lon.

This might just be speaking out from stupidity (which I've been known for ). Forsay one were to chop the top which wouldn't look all that bad I suppose (altho I think 3" might be too much). Might it be poss to adapt a new 'vette back glass to the rear deach istead of having a new rear custom made for tons of cash.

It was just a passing thought I had that seemed to be an easier solution at the time (a few beers made it seem a bit logical too ) when someone else posted a edited pic of a lowered/chop top(I think) 91-92 bird that looked an awful lot like a vette.

Hey,,, I didn't say it was a good idea lol

most likely. it'd definltely be cheaper than the regular hatch glass. although there are shops out there that can chop the glass, but it costs, too. and you'll always have a seam. you may be able to get away with just trimming the glass' outer edges until it fits right. the rest of it i imagine would be a standard chop job.

I rather just chop it all off and make it a convert.

get one of those notch back peice from GTA but then youd have to have it custom fitted because they are designed to fit a standard camaro and not a chop top specially ones thats been cut down 3" youd ahve to buy the back chop IT and try to make it look right but it might be easier to do that than try and get a peice of glass for the rear hatch

yes the notchback rear would be the easiest to do to make it work. But have you considered molding the rear glass and remaking it in lexan/acrylic?.. that would be alot easier to work with(not to mention cheaper) And it would be stronger than the orginal glass too...
