Help me ID my car
Help me ID my car
I bought my car, an 86 v6 firebird on monday. Now there are the 2 s/e labels on the sides, and the guy i bought it from insists that it is an s/e. But the only accessories it really has is P/W, P/H and tilt. Ive ran the vin through the decoder on this and several other sites, and they all say it is a the base model firebird.(S rather than X) There is alot of stuff that is not original...such as the t-tops(different lock than my keys fit) , power bulge hood , and a differently painted door(on the inside).
Where is the vin attached exactly? Is it attached to the top dash pad? The dash pad i have now is cracked, and i wouldnt doubt it if it had been replaced before.
The interior and seats are grey, but the seats have a different shade down the middle of the seats. Did all grey interiors have this ?
So my question is ....what is my car? Base or S/E.?? Thanks for the help
The VIN is not attached to the dashpad, but the top of the firewall. I'm not sure if the VIN can tell between a base/SE (camaro SC's and Z28's have the same vin, check the RPO sheet either in the glove box or in the rear storage compartment, it should tell ya. I'm sure others will have info for you as well
Don't hold me to this, but I am 99% sure that if you run the vin # on an SE that it comes up saying it is a Trans Am. I have personally never seen an SE, but from what I understand it is basically the TA body(power bulge hood, ground effects, etc) with the V6 in it.
