Newbie with a question about T-top area corroding.

Hey folks! I finally bought the car I've always wanted and love it! (My last ride was a Ford Taurus I had since 16). Now at ripe old age of 22, driving is my favorite hobby.

Anyway, the car has a couple little niggles- the spoiler's paint is all kinds of messed up, and the trim plates visible next to the T-bar when you take the T-tops off are badly corroded. My question is- how do you get those trim pieces off? I unscrewed the three top screws, but after much prying, they will not come out. I'm hoping this can be a simple swap with some freshly painted pieces from the junkyard. Any ideas?

Spoiler-wise, I'm probably just going to buy a new fiberglass one since the OEM rubber ones don't seem to have a good reputation. Any good/inexpensive fiberglass ones out there?

Thanks for the help.

Ok, with any luck you have not pulled up on the middle t-bar.. I had to deal with a rust problem on mine.. there are more screws holding it down.. but I'll telling you now.. don't remove it unless you are replacing your seals too.. I broke the seal that the t-bar peice has to the car, now I have a nasty leak into the back seats from the roof.. what I recommend is do your best and fix what you can whith it still on the car... And save your self a big headache... I learned the hardway...

Yeah, like mentioned above, there's no way to get that piece off without ruining your seals. You need to pull the seals out, then remove all screws. That center bar is all 1 piece from one side to the other. It will pull up hard, but once you get it up you can drop a new one in. Just make sure you seal the bottom of the new one with RTV or with more pads like the stock one had. I made the mistake of putting mine back without sealing it, and now it leaks.

Thanks for the replys, guys. My next question is- how do you get the seals off, and where do you get new ones? Are you guys talking about weatherstripping? If not, I'm not sure what these seals look like. Is there a tech article on this somewhere that could walk me through?

You get the seals off by pulling. New ones are available from Summit, Jegs, GM, Classic Industries, Year One and probably 50 other places. I overpayed for Soff Seal gaskets that appear to be no different (although twice as expensive) as stock gaskets.
