New Carpet for 91 z droptop, help!
New Carpet for 91 z droptop, help!
ok i need help, i want to buy new carpet, but i want opinions on where to buy it from. i know this, i want it already molded and i do not want to do any cutting. oh and also, im changing from red to a grayish color, so i also need opinions on where to get the door panels, kick panels, seats, and also the rear panels where the speakers are. remember its a convertible and im on a budget! thanks alot guys!
ACC is one of the better carpets and you will need to cut and trim some but not much.I dont know any carpet that comes with the seat holes punched and the door edges exact.should be right at $200 for the front and back .Try thirdgen or others for door panels, etc.

i don't know about all the companies, but your going to have to do some work. it isn't all bolt in and drive away.
i put acc in mine and im extremely happy with the price and quality, it did take some time though.... a lot actually, but when i was all done it came out great; the hardest time i had was cutting out the center console area.
if you decide to go through with it the best advice i can give you is to keep your existing carpet as a template.......i unfortunately threw mine out making about 3 or 4 hours more work.

I don't know of anyone making a kit specific to the 'verts. So you'll have to use the coupe kit which will work for 90% of the car. You'll have to get an auto upholstery shop to fab the remaining pieces for the sides and around the well that the top rests in. The trunk, front & rear seats and I think the piece over the gas tank is the same as the coupes.

damn, you got a lot of work cut out for you if you are completely changing the interior color of a vert. Don't do anything or buy anything until you figure out exactly what you are going to spend. finding the peices is next to impossible so you may want to just get your panels all recovered. Get some 4th gen seats from a junkyard. Chances are that you will not find convertible parts other than maybe seatbelts anywhere other than a junkyard and even that will require much driving/looking/CASH. People who have convertible rear panels for sale think that they have gold. they will want an arm and a leg. I just switched all of mine, you can read my post farther down the page ("check out my new interior, convertible from red to charcoal")If you have any questions let me know

Good luck. The 'vert interior trim panels are not available from the dealer. Also I am not aware of anyone reproducing them as of yet. Your best bet would be to repaint and recover them either yourself or have a auto upholstery shop do it. I was just informed via e-mail of a '88 'vert that is being parted out by House of Camaro (800)460-6789. He also has an '89 that he's been parting out for about 2 months now. I don't know the interior condition or color of either one, but I've left him a message.

I have replaced the carpet and most of the interior in my 88 convertible and am now recovering the rear panels. I think that is the way to go, as you can just save the material you pull off if concerned about ever restoring to original.
The carpet sets are all the same as a coupe--you have to make a minor amount of cuts in the trunk piece to get it to fit around the welding in the space where the top goes. Just use your old piece as a template, it's a piece of cake. As for both the console carpeting and carpet inside the top fold-down area, that carpet can be bought at any auto-parts store and cut to fit, again using the old as a template. Classic Industries has the vents on the console for about $4 each if you want to change their color (you can also dye or paint them).
