By seeing your 2 posts I would suggest selling your car and buying a Trans Am with t-tops. Why waste a tone of money trying to convert a car when there tens of thousands of what you want out there for sale.

Those are both good suggestions, but if you're not worried about money I was thinking about this and it would be cool to cut a Targa top in the car, like a vette!

I have heard of ( and seen pictures of) a few cars that have been modified to targa tops. One i believe was a trans am, and the rest were import deals and the like. THe problem that most people ran into is at high speeds, these custom tops were not held in place right, and had a habit of popping clean off. THis could get expensive considering a 2.5 x 5 foot or so piece of custom glass. The t-tops are held in by 3 sides, but the targa would only be held in by 2.

ok I'm about to buy a Trans am GTA with a 350 for 1800, it only needs a new headlight motor and a headliner. Paint is good, (black with gold trim) and so in the interor. I'm not going to find another ta like this with that price. I'm not gonna pay 2 thousand more for one with t-tops.

do dealerships do it or not?

Believe it or not, by the time your through having that done to your car, the 1800 plus what the cost of doing it is will end up probably the same or close to that of a car with t-tops already. True 1800 is a great deal if theres no major problems and the car is in good shape, but you can't be too picky for that price, anyway im not gonna say what you should or shouldnt do, just my 2 cents!

you dont wanna cut your own t-tops without adding subframe connectors and stuff. i wouldnt, you will lose structural integrity.

Bro I wish I new the answer, because everyone wants to tell you what they think, and no one is listening to you or trying to help you. Id guess that youd have to go to a good body shop. You may be able to find a shop close to you that is an authorized dealer/installer for a certain brand. Theres a big company that makes them. Find it on the net, that should be a good starting point to find out who will do it. Let me know if you find out. I've thought about getting it done. I know and love my car, why not sell it and get one with T-Tops? Why not trade your dog in when he gets sick? Good luck!

Number one they dont just cut in t-tops what you have to do is find a car with t-tops and take it to a good body shop and what they will do is cut the roof off of the other car and cut your roof of and weld the new one on... ITs expensive and you would defintly need to get sub frame connectors (200$) I would just get a sun roof installed if i were you and call it a day. In new jersey theres a place that will put a big sunroof in for 400 and its huge just as good as t-tops (almost minus the 1200-2000 your gonna spend otherwise. Id still get the subframe connectors either way hell even if you do nothing get them just becuase of our weak chassis. my .02

Back in 1990 it cost me $2000 to have the t-tops installed. I had it installed by San Francisco Sunroofs.

At this point in time (here and how) it's cheaper to buy a car with them. (Motor swap $2000 ???)

But since it's a 350 motor. F-body didn't come with stock t-tops (from ASC), Because of the high stress on the body with a high performance motor. Has lots of flexing.

The only difference between the factory t-top and after market is that the factory has 16 weld spots. The after market has 16 rivets in its place. It's a fact all t-top flex.

I would suggest sub-frames also.

Good luck on your choice.

Actually i have been thinking, You can get yourself a nice POWER MOON-ROOF for about a grand, never looked into one but that is what I have been told by other people. Make sure it has Drains so not to drip.

Personally I like the way the T-tops look, but I cant stand the difficulty of removing and installing them. If you like the look, Get the Moon-Roof, a can of Black spray paint, and paint the top of the car like it had T's.
