Rear hatch question

Hey Guys,

I have a quick question. I'm looking to get a new rear hatch for my Firebird and I am looking to pull one off a Camaro. Before I go to pick it up I just want to be sure they are interchangeable. Are there any differences or are they the same? Thanks.

Re: Rear hatch question

The outside is the same but we were noticing at The Gathering that the access holes on the bottom side are in different places from a Maro to a Bird. These access holes are for spoiler attachment. That is just for the metal part or hatch. There are a few different glasses because of the third brake light design and locations changing over the years. As far as just bolting a different hatch assembly on your car they should bolt up but like I said the spoilers may not interchange very well.

Re: Rear hatch question

I have an early Camaro hatch on my '86 TA, fit right up no problem. Spoiler / access holes / third brake light etc may be different as mentioned, may or may not be a problem for you.

Re: Rear hatch question

Thanks for the info guys but as it turns out I'm probably gonna be doing quite a bit to my car in the upcoming weeks so I'm thinking I'll try to save a few bucks and restore my hatch. What would you guys recommend to reattach the metal trim to the glass. I was browsing and just saw some posts mentioning using a urethane adhesive. Is there anything else i would need or just clean it and apply? Thanks

Re: Rear hatch question

The cars I have pulled apart, the trim is not bonded to the glass, just tight fit. The upper end of the trim has the hinge bolts holding it on, trailing end screwed to the hatch metal. The factory put a small line of sealer inside the frame along the outer edge of the glass, but didn't look like it actually sealed.
