Aftermarket rear wheel well housing?

Help! I'm in the process of restoring a 88 GTA with the help of an extremely talented restoration guy and I can't find any housings that haven't been damaged or just plain rusted/rotted. Does anyone out there know of an aftermarket/repro of this section. I've lost two t/a's to rust and refuse to let this happen to this one as well ( I recently only found out about POR). I don't want to use used parts and am looking for alternatives. ANY help would be appreciated!

Check good mark and classic industries bro. Or bite the bullet and can up some fiberglass ones.

Hello Dora 9,

We were alerted to your post and the recommendation to contact us regarding this part you are in need of. After some research, we have come to the conclusion that there is no aftermarket wheelhouse currently available and the GM parts 20491377 & 20491378 went obsolete in 2002.

Your best bet is going to be finding a NOS GM wheelhouse (a Google search turns up one side still listed as available from a GM dealership). Otherwise, a good used cut-off panel or clip from a salvage yard or perhaps fabrication of a repair panel will have to suffice.

We can also recommend the OER rust repair chemical line we are carrying to help kill and prevent spreading of the rust. Hope this information helps.

Look in the South to Southwestern states for a donor car. You'll be harder pressed to find one with rust than without. I have a donor car in my back yard but no real way to cut out what you need.

if you don't care about having the car all original, just get mini-tubs from summit. 75/pair.

Re: Aftermarket rear wheel well housing?

Thanks for the advice one and all! Unfortunately I'm in that "too new or too old" catagory when it comes to not having all the needed parts. Just FYI both Goodmark , Classic Industries, and Year One don't make this 3rd gen part. Of course.
Guess the quest continues for now...

Called Summit directly. The sales rep said that they don't make that "application" . Any more specific info you can supply? Thanks!

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately they want a king's ransom for each individual piece of the setup. Do you guys have any plans to produce an entire wheel tub assembly yourself? Also the outside smaller air dam pieces ( worth their weight in gold!)? While I like your catalog its far to thin on the 3rd gen stuff. If I was restoring a 67 or 68 bird I'd be all set but I'm not. Any plans to produce any more high demand parts in my generation?

Hawks is probably going to be your best used source. He's got a yard full of thirdgen parts cars, and I'm sure their guys can cut out the inner wheel-house that you need.

Thanks. I'll give them a try, although my hopes aren't very high. Far too many dissapointments so far.

That's what I'd recommend as well. The Pull-a-Parts here are full of rust-free 3rd gens, and they'll sell you a whole quarter panel for $30.

Just mini tub it - if your resto guy is worth his salt he'll be able to make it look nice and give you more room for some bigger rear wheels/tires if you desire.

Thanks for the advice. At this point it's becoming more $ sound to get an entire rear clip since I'll need all those parts eventually. I saw one at Franks Ponitiac Parts for $750. Is this a reasonable price? I'm new to this whole restoration thing. Just don't know about the shipping costs. Sometime I'll need everything trunk, full quarters(in and out), spare tire wheel well, etc.

DEFINATELY a talented guy. He built a TWO time National Camaro winner, a '67 Camaro pro street he calls "chromaro". I'm trying to go with all original parts wherever possible and keep in stock as possible.

I bought my complete (zero rust) parts car without engine or transmission for $400. For $750 I'd be more than happy to sell you half of it.
