82-84 vs 85-92 fender diff's

So in doing a lot of research i have come across the point that some say the top mounting hole (where the front bumper meets the fender) is different between the 82-84 and 85-92 fenders in that the 92-84 sticks out more. These people also said that an 82-84 bumper can go on a 95-92 but not vice versa or else you will have a gap at the top between the bumper and the fender. This is exactly what i am experiencing with my 85.

YEars ago when i did the bodywork i replaced both fenders.....one came with the car so I can't confirm the year, but the other i pulled off an 87. They are the same, so i assumed maybe newer fenders were different. NOw i researched what i mentioned above and am all confused. I just can't imagine how i could have ended up with two 82-84 fenders.

Are they truly different, and if so, does anyone have some pics they can post to compare to my fenders so i can confirm which they are?

thanks.
