My hatch wont shut!!!
My hatch wont shut!!!
My hatch will not close all the way. I know that it is supposed to have the motor in it so after i shut it the motor pulls it in the rest of the way. But the motor is not working. Is the hatch motor fixable? or do i have to find a new one? If so does anyone know how much they are? and where i can find one?

What happens to me, when the hatch doesn't shut, its the housing that holds the latch. It comes loose, and falls down a bit. What you have to do is take the back cover off. raise the latch a bit, and then tighten it back up. Works every time.

let me change my statement, my hatch does shut but not all the way. I can close it and the latch grabs it so you can not open it without the key. but it has a lot of play in it if you pull on it, it moves up and down alot. Will moving the housing up still fix that?

Mine does that too. Yesterday I discovered that the motor had been disabled and I thought that was the problem, but it wasn't. I tried tightening and moving things around a little, but still nothing is helping.
The same thing happened on my brother's car, here's what happened. There is a clear plastic housing that holds the motor and the gears. When the housing splits it will not close all the way since the gears can move on their axis. Go to a Chevy dealership and ask for the part or try a junkyard. This is the exact same thing that happened on my brother's car so this is probably what happened to you. Good luck!

Bingo. The plastic motor hoousing has broken where the mounting screws hold it to the assy. Mine did too. I repaired mine by epoxying in a steel plate, but it was a lot of work to do it. Later I discovered that the housing is available from GM. It still should be reinforced though. I've reinforced a few using thin aluminum sheet material and epoxying it around each of the screw mount locations. Oh, you'll likely discover the plastic guides are broken in several pieces. I have fabbed new ones from solid nylon. Let me know if you want to buy a set of four guides. Remember to mark the location of the hatch pull down assy with a permanent marker or scratch awl before you remove it. It will really simplify the process. Good luck, Lon.
