supercharger hoods

I have an 1983 trans am with a 355 in it and I plan on getting a supercharger for it but it will not fit under the stock hood, so I want to know what the smallest cowl induction hood that it will fit under?

Re: supercharger hoods

I'd imagine making the supercharger fit under the hood of a Trans Am is going to be pretty difficult considering the shape. The taper of the hood is probably going to hit the supercharger down by the serpentine assembly. If that's the case even a 4 inch cowl wouldn't give you clearance because the geometry of the hood doesn't change there.

Get a procharger and you won't have major issues with hood clearance.

you mean a blower/roots supercharger? Mounts with a bracket to the head, uses same holes as the factory front drive:

Re: supercharger hoods

No not necessarily. Just more crap to deal with. Intercooler, intercooler plumbing, moving the battery and some other stuff The kit is sold as direct fit but in my opinion it does not fit firebird fenders, it will on camaros however. To do a clean install you need to cut holes in the battery box and the other side (where the cruise servo and charcoal canister are) and route the pipes there.

Here's how I did it on the 92 GTA, modified the whole plumbing on this thing to make it a clean install

intercooler w/ custom scoop

Re: supercharger hoods

Question? What kind of HP/Torque are we talking about ? What exactly are these cars used for?I don’t think a 10 bolt would survive so a 9" or 12 bolt would be in order right. Don't get me wrong I love the build and those are some of the badest engines Ive ever seen but just wanted to know. Any photos of the cars would be great.

Re: supercharger hoods

Without slicks the 10 bolt and 9 bolt are just fine. The 10 bolt in this case is a 92 one, 31 spline model.

These are the cars they are in:

the black engine w/ the S&P multiport & P600B is in this:

The black engine w/ miniram & D1SC is in this:

The orange engine w/ McFarland short ram & P600B is in this:

Nah, Im just messing with ya. Its cool to see thirdgens getting attention from across the planet. Any videos of it up against some of your domestic competition?

Edit: Actually it does bother me when I see classics getting sold to other countries. I feel that they should be kept here and treated more as a salute to our heritage and not sold by tools like Richard Rawlings just to make a quick buck.... But, It bothers me even more when I see them in the hands of people who are not friendly to the U.S. like some I see in the middle east. More exploit and no real appreciation. Anyway, that's as close to politics as I want to get. I served in the 25th ID as an 11B in a Stryker Brigade and am proud that I put my foot to A S S!

The only hood a small supercharger like the B&M 144 will fit under is the ram air hood.
