center console

Hey guys and gals, just have a question here. I have an 86 Firebird with a 5spd, and am looking into swapping the center console to a 4th gen. I know this is covered lots but it seems only the automatic guys are doing it. My question being, can i do it fairly easily with my 5spd? I noticed that you need to use a standard console with an automatic because of clearance, so will my clearance be ok with a manual console? One other question, I've read that there's 2 different consoles in 4gen's, a different one after 97(?) What are the differences between these consoles?

From what I've seen the automatic guys are swapping in the 4th gen manual tranny center console. At least that is what one member with a Firebird did. It should be fine.

Yup, I've read the automatic console won't work. I was just wondering why none of the manual guys out there are doing this swap, is because it's not possible?

I'm also interested in a 4gen leather wrapped shift ****, should it just go in place of the old one with no mods?

no guarantee from me, but i'm almost positive you can do this in a 5 speed also. as for the difference in 97 and later consoles, the newer consoles have i think 2 cupholders in the back of the console for rear passengers
