Replacing the driver side door
Before I acquired my 86 Camaro, a thief took a screw driver and completely knowck the lock out as well as oelled the sheet metal away. kind of cut it and then pried it. I was told to properly repair would cost several hundred dollars. This door only has power windows.
At the swap meet last weekend, I found a 1987 camaro door, same color or very close to it. It was a complete door hidges and all. The only thing that was done was instead of removing the wiring harness, they cut it right at the car frame and it then goesd into the door. This door has power windows, locks and power mirror. All the inside panels are there as well as with all the switches. Replacing the door itself i does not seem to difficult. What I am needing to know before I determine how much time I will need to do this is the following:
Does this harness actually have a plug inside the door that can be unplugged in order to seperate the door harness from the car harness, or do I need to pull the entire harness out of the door and put into the new door. Secondly, will the items that I currently do not have on my orignal door work on the new door, or do i need to replace everything. I figured the door cost 70.00 and has everything including the glass. It was alot cheaper and more cosmeticly sound at the door lock area then to have it repaired.
Any thoughts. I did do a search for replacing door but got all kinds of stuff but nothing in replacing the door itself or the wiring harneses.
Thanks\

Re: Replacing the driver side door
Recently replaced my '91 passenger door with an '88 passenger door. Both were power windows but the '88 door did not have power mirror or power lock. You should be able to remove the old harness in the new door which has been cut from the power options and then insert your current harness into the door and connect directly to the power options. Mine fit without any problems just need to trade out the power mirror and power lock from the old door. Pull the old harness and replace it with your current one.
