headlight/front bumper mod for '87 trans am
Hey guys so I've seen a lot of people talk about headlight mods and others who have done some low profile headlight mods to get rid of the pop-up headlights. Personally I don't like pop-up headlights and I would've much rather gotten a camaro rather than a trans am, but the trans am was a sweet deal with a kick *** motor. Anyways, I've been thinking up ways to get rid of my pop-ups and I wanna run an idea by you guys.
Okay so I want to take a 4x6 headlight, make a bracket for it, cut away part of the front bumper and mount it flush with the hood, then fiberglass the huge hole where the pop-up would've gone, and put plexi-glass across the notch in the bumper and tint it black (I'm going to paint the rest of my car black also).
Basically its goin to look like camaro's do when they put a headlight cover over their headlights to make the bumper flush all the way around, and then black it out. I'll also be moving the turn signals to about the same area as on a camaro.
Anyway, tell me what you all think, I realize that there's a lot of people who really like the pop-up's or think its part of the tradition, I'm not looking for those people to comment I know what you're going to say haha
Here's something along the lines of what it would look like.

the attached thumbnails would be the location of the new headlight, and where I would cut the bumper... possibly thinking of cutting the whole notch out to the match the depth of the headlight and plexi-glass over it so it would be even all over... if you can understand that haha

If this is for a GTA then please don't do it. Sell the car and by a camaro if that is what you really wanted.

I think you can do whatever mods you want, but do yourself a favor and take off that bumper cover and mock up some of the stuff you are planning before you cut the bumper cover. I think you will find it will be a lot more work than you think. Making any modifications to the TPO plastic bumper cover is really hard to pull off without making it look like a hack job. Good TA bumper covers are hard to find if you decide you want to go back to original.

I wouldn't.
One of the reasons the headlights pop us so high is to comply with headlight height regulation. (because the Firebird bumper is lower then the Camaro)
Cutting holes in bumpers just give the fuzz reason to sniff around and start measuring.

I don't know how your fabrication skills are but this is the right way to modify your headlights IMO
