Looks like the adjustment isn't where it was before. The 2 bolts in the slots by the motor? Try loosening them and putting the adjustment back so the bolts are in the wear spots from before. I know at times the arm on the motor does not rotate with the shaft. Not exactly sure how it does that, but it is clearly slipping or jumping a tooth every rotation. May be adjusted too tight and in a bind.

I see what your saying, The marks are from me adjusting it to try it in different positions, that clicking does sound like some sort of "fail" noise..It really cant be adjusted to tight, its machined so the little arm on the motor only presses on so far..I took the motor apart it seems to be fine..maybe some one post a video of ther proprely working wiper set up? pleeease!

Don't have a vid, but what I can tell you is that arm on the motor should rotate with the piece under it. Not just swing back and forth like that.

Here's a you tube vid of the same problem. Someone solved it on the 7th post down.
"I figured it out, here is what i did, i went to the junkyard luckily i found a used wiper cover, i then put it on at the same time i made sure the three little pins that are on the inside of the motor were making contact with the circuit board on the inside of the wiper cover. The motor that i bought from oreilly auto parts didnt have the three little prongs on the motor"

Thanx, Yes I seen that video, Not sure what prongs he is speaking of, this motor and hardware came from a firebird..should have the "prongs" he is talking about ..Ive opened the motor and dont see any prongs?..Why are the little things so difficult, A cam install is less confusing...Damn car will never see rain anyways....anyways maybe some one can show me these prongs? please.

Pull the black cover on the wiper motor. There is a circuit board inside. Two contacts that are like spade clips have to contact the board on the motor. Usually so loose that they will just fall out when you take the cover off. I had mine break but soldered them back.

Arrow points where the two prongs should be mounted.

Excellent, your a good man. It looks like I have three tabs comming off the motor that make a connection with the circut board, and they all are in place..unless im confused?..I bent them forward a bit to ensure contact.. will see. Thanx Joe

I keep telling people I'm a good guy, no one believes me. I did nothing special, just passed on what I found and added some personal experience. That's what this board is all about. Don't take it as gospel, just what I saw as a solution. Your board may be bad in the cover,IDK. Good luck.

Re: Windshield wipers only move 2 inches?

ok, so I have a iroc I didn't even think to compare it to...my motor was making a clicking noise on every speed, not moving, just clicking has you selected a speed on the switch.. motor would only move on high speed..so obviously the switch is making communication with the motor cause its making some sort of noise but not moving....well I replaced the motor, replaced the tabs..they just pull off and slide on to the new motor...and that worked I have fully functioning wipers! 60 dollars from autozone.

Glad to see someone post the end result. So many times these type of threads are left unfinished because someone fixed it and they were done as far as they are concerned. Good for you. Now you won't see a drop of rain for months LOL.

Re: Windshield wipers only move 2 inches?

Okay so just a small update on this issue. As some one pointed out with small black cover that comes off does have some contact points, mine had three. All three of my prongs were still intact so I gave them a slight push forward to ensure contact and I gave em a little wipe down with alcohol. As for the contacts I actually used a little bit of Brasso to clean them off but not too much then I wiped it down with some alcohol to remove the residue, it made em nice and clean. After that I screwed the cover back and snapped the adaptor back in and boom, my wipers worked.

It appears my adaptor is also a bit busted up...the very last wire seems to have an issue because if its not adjusted right it causes the same problem occurs. I guess thats been the culprit the entire time so I'm going to try and have that replaced but for now with a quick adjustment my wipers work.

Speaking of wipers not moving properly, does anyone know where I can get a new wiper pulse board module (87 Firebird Formula)?

Hi All,
I have the 2 inch problem also (haha) and an 85 camaro 305 sport. Also, When I removed the cover I found the blue" cam? thing broke at the bottom of the plastic post that holds the cam on. I also discovered I did not transfer the contact prongs from an old motor I had to this other old motor I tried to use.

Does anyone know what should work on the wiper if the blue cam thing is missing and I get a new motor (without a new cover as they don't sell new covers)?

Right now, with the old motor and only the motor connection wires on the bottom of the motor it moves the 2 inches, and when I plug in the 4 wire connection on the side NOTHING happens! Can someone maybe explain what may be the problem and what the cover controls, and what the cam does

sorry for the lengthy post, I know its confusing.
thanks for any help you all can provide
confused tom

Re: Windshield wipers only move 2 inches?

I had that issue after the Kroc Sat for a few years when I got it running. I tried even a complete wiper motor assembly from a car that they worked on and still same problem. Felt stupid when I figured it out. I had the harness plug on the firewall side still very loose and when I pushed it tight the wipers came back to full function. Give that a look.

Perhaps you have delay style wipers and since most reman units are non delay. I had a similar issue now I'm switching to 4th gen wiper module

Thanks guys-since I had no replies for a long long time, I bought another reman motor and installed- for some reson I still am unable to connect the 3rd mounting bolt (fatigue, beer, etc I hope)- IT now works!!
I did have an intermittant wiper system, and now with the new motor and broken "cam" I get low and high speed, with no delay working
So I'll assume there was something wrong with the other 2 motors and that the cam in the cover has something to do with the delay function and/or the squirter, which I haven't hooked up yet.
thanks again for your replies. I would be interested in hearing about a 4th gen conversion as you can't get a replacement cover , unless your lucky in a junkyard as very few GM vehicles for only a couple years have this type
tom
I'll settle for 2 speeds right now

Re: Windshield wipers only move 2 inches?

Im in the middle of compiling my experience into a thread I started about the conversion. Essentially, it started for me with swapping the steering column to a 4th gen one. Then to compensate for a resulting issue, I switched to a chevy astro intermediate shaft, and now the last issue is getting the wipers to work. I am told all that needs to be done is a little cutting and bending. I just got the wiper module and bracket today so I guess I'll tackle it over the weekend.
