Hood latch diagnostics
Hood latch diagnostics
so while i was moving a few things around the engine bay, i found that my hood latch cable was rotted and the outside plastic was broken in half dozen places. when i went to pop the hood open, it would seem to not unlatch properly so i'd have to pull the hood a bit until it finally popped up. so after replacing the cable, it doesnt help the hood unlatch any better.....any ideas?

Re: Hood latch diagnostics
is it out of adjustment?
Per the manual:
Pop the hood
Loosen the latch bolts
Have someone hold the hood release lever open
close hood and open it again
adjusted
check it out.

Re: Hood latch diagnostics
i dont think its out of alignment, i didnt do what you listed, but i put the bolts in the exact same spot they were at before, and that was from the factory and never undone until now. i'll give what you posted a try, but i hope it doesnt put the hood out of line from the fenders and bumper, otherwise it'll be going backto the way it is now

after looking at it, my latch inside the assembly has a lot of play in it, i think after 26 years, its finally done-zo. so i think it needs to be replaced. i'll try that and see if that fixes it

Re: Hood latch diagnostics
Both Formulas Ive had have had hood latch issues. The first one you had to pull the latch, then go out and push down on the front of the hood to reset it. Then you go back and pull the latch--repeat--until the hood opens. The one I have now must be almost out of adjustment because you have to pull it fairly hard to get it to open. Tic toc tic toc.....

Yes, mine too. It doesn't open til you reach almost the very end of the pull. Just another fine mess to be cleaned up, but I guess thats the fun of buying a 22 year old car.

Re: Hood latch diagnostics
is there any adjustments in the cable itself. I purchased a new cable along with a new latch and it seems that its out of adjustment. Hood is a pain to open. keep in mind i dont have a hood spring and its a fiberglass hood but i have had many 3rd gens with fiberglass hoods and never had this problem. It seems like a cable issue to me. You can pull on the cable but it seems like there is too much slack in it
