Is there a manual somewhere that shows body assembly/disassembly?

For an 86 Firebird?

I have both the factory and Haynes manuals and neither gives procedures or exploded views of body (exterior).

Thanks,

GP

What do you want to know, I could probably help you.

They have the parts & Illustration books for Firebirds as well. I love those books.

That is right up there with the GM Pontiac Serviece manual for firebirds.

Thanks, I've seen that site. I was under the impression that they did not have the FB manuals, only the Camaro.

I need to replace both front and rear bumper covers, and the drivers side front fender.

As he states on his site, the FB front end is different? Yes? No?

Thanks!

This is for Firebirds W/O the ground effects...

The rear bumper is pretty easy:
Remove your interior panel so you can reamove your tailights. Once you get your tailights out, remove the 3 screws on wither side inside the rear quarter panel. The passenger side one is easy, but you might have to remove the spare tire.

Once you have the nuts off, there are plastic pop-clips. To remove these I use a pair of wire cutters (DO NOT CUT THEM OFF) you take the wire cutters & pry the little head up, which releases them. There are some on top & bottom of the bumper. Pretty straight forward. Thats it.

The front bumper is a little more involved, but not too hard:
First remove the little panels on the underside of the car in front of the wheels. To do this you might want to remove the air deflector that goes all the way across. Once you have those pieces off, I think there might be more of those plastic pop-clips on the under side. then there are the 5 7mm screws in the center between the headlights.

There are nuts on either side that hold the bumper on. I think there either 10 or 11mm I forget.

The fenders are really simple once you have your bumper off, you remove the hood, & then remove all the fender bolts running up the fender. There is a bracket in front of the wheel you will have to remove. Don't forget the turning lights. There are the plastic pop-clips that are on the inside of your wheel well. & 2 bolts behind the front wheels. one is horizontal, the other is vertical If I remember right.

I might have forgotten something, but that should be at least 90% of it.

If you think you have all the pop-clips & bolts out, pull on it kind of gently, where it does not want to release, figure out why.

John
