HELP!! Anxiety level rising (time sensative)!!

So, Long story short, Mom needed to get my car out of the garage to move some stuff out while I'm here at work. She can't start it because it has a manual choke and kill switch, so she tried pushing it out herself. When half way out, it stops rolling from momentum, so she opens the door a bit to push it with one foot, and the door edge collides with the garage door track (the track lost, but so did the paint on the door edge).

Now, while I'm happy it wasn't worse, I'm moving in a couple weeks (30 minutes away), and this is one more thing thrown in the mix to have done. I plan on using it for a lot of long-distance weekend travel once the move is done (gets better gas mileage than the Jimmy, and is just more fun overall), so I'd prefer to have it fixed before the move, if possible time-wise. I won't be able to get it to the body shop until Saturday to have it looked at, but I'd trying to get an idea of what it's gonna take (time/work) to fix it to try and calm me down before I get home this afternoon. Unfortunatly, I get incredibly stressed out when wrenches like this are thrown in my plans (as much as I try not to), especially problems with the Camaro (multiplies everything by 10). Mom was REALLY upset with herself, (her and Dad are moving to Atlanta from here in Detroit, so this sent her anxiety WAY over the moon), and I don't want to make her feel worse with my own raised stress level when I get home tonight.

My question to you: In your opinion, what am I looking at? I know that noone can give a 100% assesment from pictures (the shop won't, which I completely understand), but I'm trying to figure out how bad it's gonna be (sand and respray whole door, just touchup chipping, whatever). Even if it's more work than I'm hoping, I'd like to at least have an idea of what I'm dealing with so I don't jump to conclusions based on wrong assumptions.

Paint is 2 base + 1 clear, exactly 1 year old. Car is garaged, primarily driven in nice weather, covered when not in use, and washed & waxed regularly.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Re: HELP!! Anxiety level rising (time sensative)!!

I don't see a need for a body shop there.

It's not all that bad, a little bit of sanding and some touch-up paint would fix it right up.

I don't mean to offend (for real, just look at the paint on my car...or lack there of) but the paint job doesn't appear to be that great considering the large amount of overspray on the weatherstripping. I'd just find a similar color and touch it up yourself, don't waste time with a shop, you'll pay way more than you need to.

Re: HELP!! Anxiety level rising (time sensative)!!

Thanks for that. Aside from the door jambs, it is a pretty decent paint job (excellent for what I paid). Only 1 small area of orange peak, the rest is pretty smooth. I opted to leave the jambs due to cost, as it's primarily a weekend ride. I'll post pics once back at my desk.

But I will still have the shop handle it. I could do it myself, but right now it's more needing time for other things than the cost. Besides, it's the same shop that painted it, and I don't want to mess with tracking down the paint (it would take more time than dropping it off at the shop). Unless anyone has a good source for tracking down the factory color? Then I'm all ears!

Well to get by for now, throw a set of black door edge guards on it till you get settled after your move. Don't stress over it. We all been there at one point or another.

Btw, the "thanks for that" was for the advice, not sarcasm against your opinion on the paint. No qualms against you for that.

Re: HELP!! Anxiety level rising (time sensative)!!

Actually, I think I'll get some paint on the way home (I can get yellow and white and mix them to match), touch it up, and still add the edge guards once the paint's dry. Got to thinking about it, and, not that I want it to happen again, but had they been their in the first place, there would be no issue now.

Thanks again (both of you)!

Thanks! I'll get around to posting updated pics one of these days (Computer delete Q-jet, LT headers w/ true duals, among other things). Maybe after the move.

Re: HELP!! Anxiety level rising (time sensative)!!

For anyone getting new paint on a car that will be a DD the door edge guards are an excellent idea. Just sand them down a little and have them painted with the same paint as the car before installing them. Heres what they look like on mine.
One photo of them being painted and two on the car. You can barely even see them.
