t-top seal question!

Hi!

I was wondering is it normal to have water in the area that i am lifting up? do you guys think thats the original glue from the factory? Could it have been replaced and not sealed correctly?

Re: t-top seal question!

That looks like some kind of adhesive to me. idk about from the factory or not but w/out a clearer picture it doesn't look like rust.

is it rust? lol.

Re: t-top seal question!

Idk about normal, but the point of the weatherstripping is to keep the water out, so if the water is on the "outside" of the weatherstripping then I'd say that is normal. T-tops are bad about leaking.

Re: t-top seal question!

The water is getting in on the opposite side of that seal. It is not sealed properly on the outside. I can't tell if those are original, but I had a similar problem on my car and the seals were original. It eventually caused rust in that channel on that car where you are seeing water. When I had the car painted I had the rust issue taken care of. The lip was a bit rotted out in that channel and it was replaced with new metal and all of the surface rust was removed. I was lucky because it could have been far worse. Do a search for t top rust and you will see what others have dealt with. There was a guy who recently had to replace the whole t roof with a piece from a donor car. So my suggestion to you is to take care of that now before it turns into a real headache. Pull the old seals off, take care of any rust and install new seals properly using plenty of adhesive in the right spots.

I don't know the answer to your first question about where to glue them, but I would think the answer to this question is...let it dry glass out. They clamp in pretty tight, and I would worry about the gasket sliding or shifting out of place with the adhesive still wet.
