1991 z28 access panel restoration help

I'm restoring a 1991 z28. Car doesn't need a lot on the interior but the exterior needs some work. The car has a fuel pump access panel that I'm wanting to restore back to the original as possible. In other words, what is the best what I can make this look like it has never happened?

It has been cut and covered with bondo. I thought about sanding it down and repainting....is there a better way?

I'm just not a fan of the access panel.

Thanks

If you want to take it back to almost like it never happened then drop the tank, cut some donor sheet metal from the cargo portion of a junk yard car (enough to cover the existing hole), and weld it in. Grind it down, paint it, and you'll be good to go.

I would get a replacement part from a yard just like RedLeader289 said then fit it to match the hole flush then but weld it in

That just doesn't make sense..you have any pics of it? I'm all for the access door if done neatly but I just don't get why someone would bondo over one? Did they install the super duper life long lasting fuel pump guaranteed to never go bad?
