Hey All,

I have a found a car with a 3 year old windshield (made in China) in like new shape in the scrap yard.

With no electric tools and only the hand tools for removing windshields. Would one be successful at removing the windshield without damage, limited time as well maybe a 3-4 hours.

If you've never done one with the manual cutter, you will have a considerable risk of breaking the W/S which the scrap yard will probably make you pay for anyway.

Unless you are on an extremely tight budget, it would be best to just go to a glass shop and get a new glass and let them install it. In most places here in the U.S., they will come to your house to do the work.

 

 

I've broken 3 and successfully removed one with hand tools in the junk yard. It's not easy.

 

I have removed 2 windshields intact with the harbor freight kit and the help of a friend in under an hour each
depending on how you hold the wire it is very easy to scratch the paint around the window - not a concern for the junk car so i only use this method on parts cars

I use several razor blade knives to cut the seal when removing the broken window from a good car, sometimes i can crack the glass when doing this when i cut from the inside of the car, not a problem since it's already cracked. but i don't have to worry about scratching the paint.
