need some help please.

Hello everyone! so glad that there is a site like this where i can ask all my questions. i need some help, i got in a wreck in my 84 firebird a few weeks ago. the engine still ran 30 mins after the crash because i drove it home. When i parked it at my house and turned the car off and went inside to grab some cash to take it to the auto body shop, wehn icame outside i found out that the engine wouldnt start..... it would crank, but just wouldn't turn over. Im tight on money right now since it almost christmas (presents arent cheap) so i didn't want to pay for the towing bill. someone mentioned that there is an emergency shut of switch for the fuel pump in certain vehicles when you get into a crash that stops delivering fuel from the fuel pump to the engine. Is what they are saying true? if so, how do you fix that? I was also told that something on the distributor that can stop giving the engine spark when you get into a wreck. But all this doesn't make since to me since the car ran and drove to my house after the wreck. I would appreciate some help!

Re: need some help please.

It would help if we knew what engine you have, lets us know what system we are trying to fix, but If it was running, It didn't trip the inertia switch. I don't think F-bodies have them anyway.

My apologies! It's the 305 v8. I didn't think f-bodies had inertia switches either.

Re: need some help please.

FYI - This is the "Body" thread, should most likely be in Tech/General Engine maybe.

Anyways, where was the car hit, front, back, side?
Original motor that came in the car?
After the crash, did you turn the car off or did you leave it running?
IE = Was the only time you shut it off and tried to crank it back over was after you got home?

Reason I ask is, because if after the crash you never turned it off, it could be starter/spark issue, not fuel since it was still running and never needed spark to turn back over. However, if you did turn it off and back on immediately after the crash who knows.

Check simple things first, is it getting spark? Is it getting fuel?
