Metro or soft seal need to choose soon!!
Ive used metro before on my 87 and they fit fine… thick as hell and need to close the doors kinda hard still. Not too happy with the hard top roof seals and they back seals (by the rear quarter don't even touch the windows! So I got new doors and Im looking at getting new seals yet again for them.
Im honestly looking for a cheap decent set. I just need the door seals, outer sweeps, and the triangle seals for the window at the front corner. I'm looking at saving a few bucks going with AM auto parts, 1Aauto or summit. All are within 10-20$ of each other.
If I go with summit Im looking at Softseal for the doors and sweeps and OER for the triangles. OER are cheaper than soft seal at summit… but for like $8 more I can get the soft seals if they are better than the OERs.
AM auto parts I'm looking at metro/house brand for everything. BUt they do have OER style for like an extra $20 for the door seals.
1Aauto will prob be all metro as well.
I know there is a ton of info but I can't get a definitive answer on what to get… the soft seal and metro are close in price… so its more about fitment and quality. What do you guys think?

Re: Metro or soft seal need to choose soon!!
For what its worth using the same non OER style seals (except for summit with the OER triangle seals) I'm looking at these total costs.
Summit = $170 (soft seal sweeps,door seals and OER triangles)
AM auto = $180 (Metro everything)
1Aauto = $201 (metro everything)
If I swap out the triangles for soft seal at summit price goes to:
summit = $175 ( everything soft seal)
So is soft seal better than OER on the triangles?

I used Soffseal on my t tops and I like them. They fit and seal well. You have to make sure, with any seal, that the install is correct. There are some good write ups on here. Do your research before installing. Stay away from OER seals.
For the door seals, I used Fairchild and I liked them. The edges have a plastic cage like the originals, so the screws do not just go through the seal.

I've used soft seal on a different vehicle before and the fit was tight. I chose metro this time but have not installed yet. One observation is the metro does not have the reinforcement inside the molded ends like the factory ones did. I'm sure it will work but will likely require more adhesive and probably some taping to hold place until the adhesive cures. But these are nice and soft!

Re: Metro or soft seal need to choose soon!!
Ok I installed the metro door seals this weekend. Since they don't have the reinforcements getting the ends right it's a little tricky. I had to stretch the ends and tape them in place. There factory screws are only useful as a placement aid and to hold the ends. It took working them around quite a bit. While the ends were taped in place I shut the door. I was not pleased about the amount of effort required to shut the door. Very tight. After opening and closing a few times to verify it was as good as possible I left it shut overnight. The next day I took off the tape. Be careful here cause the seal will tear if the tape is strong. Which it has to be to hold. Anyway overall it seems alright. The door shuts tight but the seals do seem to be relaxing and it is acceptable. Not as good as factory deals but hey they're about a third of the price so all in all good.

Re: Metro or soft seal need to choose soon!!
After a week the door seals have settled in and are just fine. With the Windows up it takes a little follow through to close the doors but not bad at all. I think I would rather have them a little tight now. Along with rebuilding my hinges the car rides so much better than before. Very pleased and the price of the metro seals vs gm they're a bargain.
