Z28 Black headlight buckets

I recently purchased a 91 Z28. The front bumper and fenders need body work and paint. What kind of paint are you guys using to do the black in the headlight area? Its not flat and it isn't really shiny either. Thanks in advance for any help

I kind of want to use the correct stuff. Is that what the body shops would use to do them?

they wouldn't use a spray can they'd use whatever paint products they're shop does buisness with and just do them in flat black. even though they should be semi gloss.

Re: Z28 Black headlight buckets

Don't use spray paint and make sure it gets clear coated. Mine from the factory didn't appear to have a clear coat and I never found a product I liked using on them. When I painted the car I used the same black I did the top half in. Gloss black with a clear, looks good. I wouldn't worry about the exact color unless you want a real stock spec restoration. That category can be hard to get in at a car show, very strict. Go with whatever you like, some guys on here say plastidip flat black looks great.

Re: Z28 Black headlight buckets

If you want a quick remedy, until you actually take the bumper to a body shop to get worked/painted. Any simple semi-flat rattle can spray paint will work. Just make sure to tape everything up, and give the current paint that you be painting a scuff with a scuff pad.

Still need to do the passenger side one, but weather hasn't been cooperating in south Texas.

Re: Z28 Black headlight buckets

Why is everyone saying flat black? They were originally a satin black. There should be a slight reflection, but not full on gloss.

Do a search of the History forum and you'll get pretty good suggestions for a perfect match.
